The congested leaderboard at the PGA Championship became even more crowded when Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Chris DiMarco and David Toms moved to eight-under-par early in the third round this morning.
The quartet joined overnight leaders Henrik Stenson of Sweden, Briton Luke Donald and Americans Tim Herron and Billy Andrade, all yet to tee off at windy Medinah, on eight-under.
Woods, gunning for his second major in a row after winning last month's British Open, rolled in a 30-footer to save par after a wild drive at the first hole before following up by birdying the second.
Masters champion Mickelson, who began the day four shots back, posted four birdies in the first seven holes while DiMarco hit five birdies on the front nine and 2001 PGA champion Toms birdied the opening two holes.
On seven-under at the season's last major were Spain's Sergio Garcia (four holes), former Masters champion Mike Weir of Canada (six), 2003 winner Shaun Micheel (four), 1997 champion Davis Love (one) and Briton Ian Poulter (seven).
A rare albatross from American Joey Sindelar got the third round off to a flying start.
Sindelar holed his three-wood from 220 metres for a two at the 491m par-five fifth, only the third albatross in championship history.
But the 48-year-old struggled on the back nine as he carded a 73 for a one-over total of 217.
