A golf club that closed a decade ago continues to help promising young Waikato players.
The Puahue Club, 14km from Te Awamutu, was where Phil Tataurangi learned to play and he is patron of the trust formed to handle funds remaining after it closed.
The trust has been making grants to young players since 1998. Among the recipients have been New Zealand representatives Mathew Holten and James Gill and Waikato representatives Stephanie Slavich and Sarah Bradley.
The beneficiaries this year are Emily Perry and Luigi Johnston, both from the Lochiel Club.
