Former New Zealand one-day cricket international Alex Tait was in a class of his own on his way to winning the Poverty Bay Golf Open in Gisborne.
Tait, the defending champion, hammered North Harbour representative Ryan Leslie 5 and 4 in the match-play final on the Poverty Bay course.
A member of Whangarei's Sherwood Park course and a Northland golf representative, Tait was always in control of the match.
He led three-up at the halfway stage after shooting a front nine of two-under 34, including driving the 315m par-four seventh hole to make birdie.
He was three under par when the pair shook hands.
In the semifinals, Tait defeated Muriwai's Waka Donnelly 2 and 1 and Leslie, who comes from Fiji, beat another Aucklander, Titirangi's Bob Haase, on the first hole of sudden death.
