LOS ANGELES - Steve Stricker has a chance to replace Phil Mickelson as the world No 2 ranked golfer when he takes a gaping five-shot lead into the final day of the Northern Trust Open in Los Angeles.
Keen to make amends after Mickelson pipped him at the final hole to successfully defend this title last year, Stricker built a big cushion in the rain-affected tournament.
The American was at 14-under par and set to return today facing a 9m birdie putt on the 15th hole as he completes his third round.
