KEY POINTS:
ATLANTA, Georgia - Australian Adam Scott produced a near flawless final round to win the Tour Championship by three strokes here today.
The 26-year-old Queenslander began the day with a three-shot cushion and never surrendered his grip on the trophy, giving his rivals no chance with a four-under 66 in pleasant conditions at East Lake.
Scott finished at 11-under 269, ending a 35-event winless drought on the US Tour, while American Jim Furyk (65) shot the day's best score to claim second place on eight-under 272.
The victory, worth US$1,170,000 ($1.75 million), lifts him to third on the final US Tour money list behind Tiger Woods and Furyk.
Scott's performance capped off a fabulous season for Australians on the US Tour, with six players winning a total of eight events.
Geoff Ogilvy and Stuart Appleby won twice, with Scott, Rod Pampling, Aaron Baddeley and John Senden victorious once each.
All of these players will be at next week's MFS Australian Open at Royal Sydney.
"This is awesome," Scott said of his fourth official victory in the US.
"I played great this week, a couple of hiccups, but I'm really proud of what I did."
Scott was in complete control for most of the final round, picking up five birdies in the first 13 holes.
He stumbled with a bogey at the 16th and almost dropped another shot at the par-four 17th, sinking a six-metre putt to save par and all but clinch victory.
Scott's only other victory this year came at the Asian Tour's Singapore Open.
He missed the cut last week, but turned his game around after a fruitful session with coach Butch Harmon, who quickly identified a swing fault.
Best of the other Australians was Appleby, equal 10th at one-over 281, two strokes better than Pampling, with Ogilvy further back, equal 19th on eight-over 288.
"I've hit the ball better but I've never had 72 holes where I've missed that many putts from (outside two metres)," said US Open champion Ogilvy.
