Waikato golfer Mark Purser has moved to within two shots of the lead going into the final round of the weather-affected Eastern Amateur in Virginia, United States.
Purser fired a six-under-par 64 in the third round to jump to fifth place, two shots from the joint leaders at the Elizabeth Manor Country Club.
His New Zealand academy teammate, Josh Geary, finished in a share of 12th place at The Players Championship at Belfair Country Club in Bluffton, North Carolina.
Geary closed with a one-under-par 70 to finish with a 12-under total of 272, which was 10 shots behind winner Jonathan Moore.
Purser's tournament was hit with a storm delay for the third straight day with 18 players forced to complete their third rounds today (NZ time) before a late start to the final round.
"The key thing about all these delays is to keep your mind occupied and your thoughts away from the golf course," Purser said.
"I've had a good laugh with the Australian guys who are here; we play a lot of golf together. They've kept me on track.
