New Zealand's six-man golf team failed to win a match as Australia romped home 8-1 on the opening day of the Four Nations Championship in Japan today.
Tauranga pair Brad Iles and Josh Geary halved their singles matches, but that was the only joy for the New Zealanders at the Nikko Country Club.
Iles halved with Victoria's Marc Leishman while Geary was all square with Victoria's Andrew Tampion.
Leading the way for Australia were last month's New Zealand amateur championship finalists Mitchell Brown and Andrew Dodt.
Brown beat Waikato's Mark Purser 3 and 1 while Dodt beat Auckland's Kevin Chun 5 and 4.
New Zealand went close in all three foursomes matches, with the Geary/Chun duo and the Matthew Holten/Iles combination taking their matches to the 18th.
In the other match, Japan beat Canada 7-2.
