New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell mixed the good with the bad when opening his account at the PGA Championship in the United States today.
Campbell had a round of liquorice all sorts in posting a three-over-par 73 at Baltusrol Golf Club at Springfield, New Jersey, to trail early leaders, South African Trevor Immelman and American Ben Curtis, by six strokes.
The US Open champion registered six bogeys and three birdies after enduring a horror start.
He posted three successive bogeys to find himself three-over arriving at the fourth tee before nabbing one shot back with a birdie three on the seventh.
He immediately gave that back by bogeying the next but at least played the inward nine in even par with two bogeys cancelling out a brace of birdies.
At least Campbell fared better than his playing partner Tiger Woods, the world No 1 managing just a five-over 75 as he seeks his third major title of the year.
