SYDNEY - Golfer-of-the-moment Danny Lee dropped four shots late in his round to record a two-over-par 74 on the opening day of the Moonah Classic in Melbourne today.
The New Zealand amateur, fresh from his stunning one-stroke victory in the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, had a rollercoaster opening round of the Nationwide Tour and Australasian Tour co-sanctioned event at the Moonah Links course.
One of the early starters on the 10th tee, Lee had three birdies and a bogey in his first 12 holes to hold a share of the lead.
But he then bogeyed the fourth and eighth holes, before topping his round with a double bogey six on the par-four ninth.
American Hunter Haas and Australian pair Peter O'Malley and Andrew Bonhomme were the clubhouse leaders with opening rounds of four-under 68.
David Smail is among a host of New Zealanders teeing off in the afternoon.
