New Zealand golfers struggled at the Australian amateur golf championships in Adelaide yesterday.
Whakatane teenager Zoe-Beth Brake was the only New Zealand woman to qualify for the matchplay phase of the championship after finishing in a share of 25th place in the strokeplay at Glenelg Golf Club.
Brake fired a two-over par 75 in the final round for a four-round total of 16-over par 308 but is safely through in the top 32 players to chase the Australian amateur title.
North Island champion Dana Kim (Christchurch) continued to struggle firing a final round six-over 79 to miss out on matchplay by one shot.
Rotorua's Penny Smith was a further two shots back on 22-over with Caroline Bon (Whangarei) and Lisa Wright (Nelson) back in the field.
South Australia's Stephanie Na could a fford a final round even par 73 to capture the strokeplay title with a nine-under 281, seven shots clear of West Australia's Kristie Smith with Rebecca Flood (NSW) third.
The men will need a massive effort in tomorrow's final round to extend their stay in the championship at Royal Adelaide GC.
The Tauranga pair of Kevin Smith and Jared Pender share 19th place after three rounds with a five-over-par 221, with leading internationals Danny Lee (Rotorua) and Nick Gillespie (Hastings) on the cut mark in a share of 25th place with 10 players.
