Bradley Iles wants his golf clubs.
New Zealand's top amateur remains in intensive care in a United States hospital following a cart accident, but yesterday made a request for a nurse to fetch his clubs.
Iles' father Peter said his son was trying to get out of bed when the nurse arrived.
"The nurse put him back into bed and he asked her to please go and get his golf clubs. I think he thought she was his caddie."
Peter Iles said his son was still largely unaware of what was happening around him.
"He's so drowsy, he kind of loses reality from time to time.
"He comes and goes a bit ... but he's recognising people. He's still on some medication and that's keeping him a bit zonked out as well."
Iles, 20, fractured his skull when he fell from the back of the cart in Georgia several hours after he had competed in a tournament. Peter Iles said the accident happened about 10pm and was after prizegiving had been completed.
"We have only had it confirmed by him today that they were out after the tournament was over ... and they thought they would go to look at the alligators in the swamps.
"They were going home, they went around a corner and for some reason Brad fell off the back and hit his head on the tarmac."
He was flown to the hospital where it was found he had two blood clots on the brain.
Peter Iles and his wife flew from New Zealand to the United States on Tuesday.
"We have been here about 24 hours now. He's much the same as he was yesterday. He still has some swelling on his brain."
Peter Iles expected his son to remain in intensive care for another day or two and be "reassessed from there".
Bradley Iles had been competing on the North American circuit and was not due to return home until August 23. He still had US and Canadian amateur tournaments to contest.
