New Zealand representative Kyla Welsh emphatically claimed her second national under-21 women's golf title in Christchurch today.
Welsh, who plays out of the Hutt Golf Club in Wellington, accounted for fellow national representative Enu Chung three and two in the 18-hole final at the Coringa Golf Club.
She first won the title three years ago before going on to take the Australian junior title.
Welsh was always in control against her Auckland opponent. She was one up after three holes and extended that to two up with a birdie at the sixth.
Chung, 15, bogeyed the eighth to leave Welsh with a three-hole advantage at the turn, which she extended to four up with a birdie at the 10th.
Welsh took a stranglehold when she went five up at the 12th and although Chung won the 14th and 15th holes, Welsh captured the title when they both halved the 16th.
Welsh had a much tougher time in the semifinal against close friend and clubmate Sarah Nicholson.
She made a strong start to lead three up after four holes, but Nicholson fought back to square the match at the 15th. They were forced to extra holes before Welsh won at the 20th.
Chung had no such problems in her semifinal, leading three up at the turn before beating North Shore's Bobea Park seven and five.
Auckland's Natasha Krishna won the Khandallah Trophy, beating Tammy Clelland, of Taupo, two up in the final.
