Michael Campbell has broken down after his first round at the US PGA golf major in Illinois.
Campbell carded a two under par round of 70 to be just four shots off the clubhouse leader, American Lucas Glover, who's finished at 6 under.
Glover has a one shot lead over fellow American Billy Andrade.
Campbell broke down after the 18th hole.
A service had been held earlier in the morning for fellow European golfer Darren Clarke's wife Heather, who lost her battle with cancer earlier this week.
Campbell and the Northern Irishman are close friends.
Campbell says his mind was not always on golf, and he was numb during the first three holes as he thought about Clarke burying his wife.
As for what happened on the course, Campbell says his first round was very promising, and he is in a positive frame of mind.
He is one shot behind Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, who went round the Medinah course in three under par.
