KUALA LUMPUR - New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell muscled his way towards a second victory in three weeks after finishing three strokes clear of the field midway through the second round of the Malaysian Open yesterday.
Campbell recorded a five-under par 67 in oppressively humid conditions on the Saujana course in Kuala Lumpur to lead the co-sanctioned European and Asian Tour event at eight under par.
Fellow Kiwi Elliot Boult also moved into contention when he shot a six-under 66 to finish tied in second place with Fiji's Vijay Singh.
Campbell highlighted his second round in brilliant style by eagling the uphill par-four first hole.
The eagle was his second of the tournament. The world No. 16 managed a similar result on the fourth hole on the opening day of the $US910,000 ($2,166,000) event.
"It's unbelievable, holing two eagles in two days," said Campbell.
