SHANGHAI - New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell's hopes of ending a 13-month winless streak have vanished after a dismal third round at the HSBC Champions event in Shanghai.
The 2005 US Open champion started the day in joint third place and shot a five-over par 77 to end it in joint 19th with a three round total of 213.
Cambell dropped six shots over his opening seven holes in windy conditions on the Sheshan course.
He went on to pick up another three bogeys on his 10th, 11th, 12th and 15th holes before closing out his round with three birdies
Campbell had begun the round at nine under and just one stroke from the lead but then dropped well off the pace and back into a share of 20th place on two-under par.
Campbell bogeyed his first two holes and then dropped four shots in succession from the fourth hole.
He halted the slide down the leader board with birdies at his eighth and ninth holes that saw him make the turn with a four-over par 40 and a share of 15th place.
South African Retief Goosen led the championship, firing a 69 today for a 12-under par 204.
World No 1 Tiger Woods was joint fifth on 209 five shots back after a round of 73 today.
In second was Korea's Yang Yong-eun with overnight leader Jyoti Randhawa of India third on 206.
