KEY POINTS:
Michael Campbell scored himself an eight out of 10 after muscling his way near the top of the leaderboard with a flawless round of 66 on the opening day of the US$5 million ($7.58 million) HSBC Champions golf event in Shanghai yesterday.
He birdied six holes of the Sheshan course to sit just one stroke behind the clubhouse leader, India's Jyoti Randhawa, a former Asian Tour No 1.
Campbell was tied in second place with Korean Yong-Eun Yang and Scotland's Marc Warren, voted rookie of the year in Europe this year.
"I am very happy with that round but also surprised after taking a three-week break," he said.
