New Zealand golfers Cecilia Cho and Ben Campbell have advanced to the semifinals of the Australian amateur championships in Perth.
They did so in vastly different style, with Aucklander Cho in brilliant form to dominate Tasmania's Ashlee Dewhurst 7 and 6 at Lake Karrinyup Country Club yesterday.
By contrast, Campbell, of Masterton, had to fight his way back from 2 down to win his quarter-final on the 19th hole over Kieran Pratt, of Victoria.
Cho completed her second round match yesterday morning after weather disrupted play on Monday. Beginning at 1 up after seven holes, she went on to edge Perth's Angie Yang 2 and 1.
The 15-year-old, who won the Australian strokeplay title last weekend, turned up the heat in the quarter-final against Dewhurt by making three birdies in a blemish-free performance.
Campbell was never ahead in his match in regular play, recovering from 2 down to be all square at the turn. He then dropped two holes to find himself 2 down again with two holes to play.
He won the difficult 17th with a par after Pratt failed to get up and down, before holing a 6m birdie putt on the 18th to force the match to extra holes.
Pratt narrowly missed his birdie chance from 5m on the 19th but Campbell made no mistake from a similar distance to snatch victory.
