KEY POINTS:
Injured New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell still hopes to tee it up in next week's Australian Open.
A shoulder injury forced Campbell to miss the Australian Masters which ended near Melbourne yesterday.
A scan has subsequently cleared the 2005 US Open champion of serious damage and it is thought he will come right through rest and treatment.
His agent, David Rollo, told NZPA today that Campbell still harboured hopes of contesting the Australian Open, which starts on December 11 just a 10 minute drive from his home, at The Royal Sydney Golf Club.
"The prognosis is really pretty good. There is nothing structurally wrong which needs surgery or anything like that," Rollo said.
"It is just like a small tear, which needs some therapy and some rest."
"He is not ruling out playing the Australian Open. He would really like to play there given it that he lives locally."
He said Campbell would hit some balls on Thursday and see how the shoulder reacted before making a decision on his fitness the next day.
The injury, which has troubled him since July, forced Campbell to withdraw after the first round of the Hong Kong Open last month.
