WOBURN - Michael Campbell had little to say after his poorest ever round, an 86, on the European Tour.
Campbell crashed to last place in the inaugural Heritage event at Woburn, north or London, to finish a massive 15 shots behind five players tied in 65th place.
The round is Campbell's highest in 11 years competing in Europe and a stroke worse than his 85 in the second round of the 1997 Cannes Open.
He also has recorded three rounds of 84 including the first in only his second event in Europe, the 1993 Dutch Open.
The effort at Woburn is also Campbell's worst display since an embarrassing opening round 89 in last year's Players Championship in Florida where he eventually signed for a wrong score and was disqualified.
Campbell headed straight from the Woburn course after his round and back to his Brighton residence but leaving long-time caddy, Michael Waite, totally bemused by the manner of his employer's actions this week.
Campbell started the closing round already well down the board in a share of 66th on four over par after earlier rounds of 72, 73 and 75.
He started his round with two pars and also ended with pars at the 17th and 18th holes but it was Campbell's efforts over the 16 holes in between that had early morning spectators disbelieving on course leader boards.
Campbell is due to contest this week's Amex World Golf Championship in Ireland but needs a marked turnaround in mental toughness if he's not to finish last also in the 72-player no-cut field.
