Grant Moorhead's victory in the Montana Canterbury Pro-am at Terrace Downs is a welcome boost for the "forgotten man" of the 1992 Eisenhower-winning New Zealand team.
The prize of $4000 pales besides the cheques his former team-mates Michael Campbell, Phil Tataurangi and Steve Scahill have cashed over recent years. But his course-record 66 in the second round shows he has still got the game, which earned his place among the amateur elite.
His Canterbury win followed another success in the Mangawhai Pro-am four weeks ago.
The Taranaki professional is our most successful Eisenhower player. Not only was he in the winning team of 1992 in Vancouver, he was also a member of the team who finished equal second at Christchurch two years earlier.
Moorhead had several successes in the Pacific Islands at the start of his professional career but a life-threatening infection picked up in the islands stalled his progress. He heads to Fiji again in June for three tournaments before crossing the Tasman for some more pro-ams.
