Honours were shared after the first day of the Junior Tasman Cup golf international in Wellington yesterday.
New Zealand, who have never won the biennial clash, and Australia were level 6-6 after winning one foursomes match and two singles matches each at the Hutt Golf Club.
The New Zealand combination of Auckland's Dasom Lee and North Harbour's Yeon Song Kim were always in command in their foursomes match, winning six of the first seven holes with pars against Australians Bree Arthur and Felicia Eastick.
The Australians grabbed two back before New Zealand closed out the match 5 and 4.
The other match was a close-fought affair with New Zealanders Lisa Wright of Nelson and Sarah Bradley of Cambridge leading early before the visitors, Kristie Smith and Clare Choi, won three in five holes to lead 3-up at the turn. The Australians took the match 2 and 1. There are two foursomes and four singles matches today.
