LISBON, Portugal (AP) Sporting Lisbon took the lead in the Portuguese league on Sunday after Fredy Montero scored two goals in a 2-0 win at Gil Vicente.
Sporting moved two points ahead of three-time defending champion FC Porto and fellow title rival Benfica.
Gil Vicente, which hadn't lost at home this season, was left in fifth place behind Estoril in fourth.
Montero opened with a goal in the 19th minute. Gil Vicente defender Pericles Santos was dismissed in the 61st with a red card for a hard tackle on William Carvalho before Montero sealed the victory in the 74th.
Also, Rio Ave won 1-0 at Olhanense, while Nacional drew 2-2 at Maritimo.
