SAO PAULO (AP) Ponte Preta upset host Sao Paulo 3-1 in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana semifinals on Wednesday.
Paulo Henrique Ganso put the defending champion ahead in the 24th minute in front of more than 50,000 Sao Paulo fans at the Morumbi Stadium, but Ponte Preta equalized with an own goal by defender Antonio Carlos in the 45th, then moved ahead with Leonardo in the 55th and sealed the victory with Uendel in the 72nd.
Ponte Preta can reach its first international final even if it loses the second leg against the Brazilian club by a goal next week in Mogi Mirim.
Goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni played his 1,116 match with Sao Paulo, matching Pele's mark with Santos as the player with most games played for the same club in Brazil.
