BERLIN (AP) Mainz snatched a 1-1 draw at Nuremberg on Friday after an equalizer from Shinji Okazaki denied the home side its first Bundesliga victory of the season.
Park Joo-ho sent a long ball forward for Japan striker Okazaki to shoot beyond Nuremberg 'keeper Raphael Schaefer inside the far post in the 75th minute.
It was the visiting side's first real chance of the second half, with Nuremberg missing a host of opportunities to extend its lead in snowy conditions after Per Nilsson opened the scoring with a deflected header in the fifth minute.
"It looked like we didn't know you can also play football in snow," Mainz general manager Christian Heidel said.
The equalizer gave the visitors confidence. Nicolai Mueller and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting both missed great chances to win it for Mainz in the closing minutes, before teammate Peter Sliskovic was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Schaefer in the 90th.
