The hooligans on the right of the screen, some ten strong, rush forward to land a hail of kicks and punches.
Their opponents, who appear outnumbered, move back before hitting out with their fists, and the thugs battle each other in small groups before reforming into two lines.
The opposing groups goad each other with threats of violence as shocked witnesses, including one man carrying a beach towel, watch on.
As the footage ends the thugs appear to be walking apart and the violence has subsided.
The fight, filmed on Wednesday, was between hooligans from Borussia Dortmund against those from FC Schalke and Rot-Weiร Oberhausen.
Borussia Dortmund and Schalke are known to be fierce rivals, and the Revierderby - or Ruhr Derby - between them is heavily policed.
Oberhausen, who are also from the Ruhr region in the west of Germany, appear to have teamed up with Schalke to take on Dortmund.
One man wearing what appears to be a Schalke shirt can be seen in the one-minute video, but as most of the thugs are in casual gear it is unclear which side is which.
