The president of a Brazilian football team has stood down after armed men threatened to kill him and his family if the side were relegated at the end of the season.
The sister of second division Paysandu's president Sergio Serra, wrote a post on Facebook recounting the frightening incident, Reuters reports.
According to Cristina Serra, two armed men threatened the Paysandu president when he was walking with his wife and children in the Brazilian city of Belem.
Paysandu currently sit one spot out of the relegation zone in Brazil's second division.
"One of them, his face covered with a shirt said, 'I know where you live. If Paysandu go down to the Serie C I'll end you, and your wife and that crazy son,"' Christina Serra wrote on Facebook.
"My brother was very shaken and took the only decision possible under the circumstances, to resign."
