The owners and operators of Britain's Wembley stadium say it will be completed on schedule in May 2006, despite an announcement from the constructor that it faces losses on the project.
But the union which represents workers on the site said they believed the project was running two to three months late.
Australian property developer Multiplex said the construction was on time but admitted it may make a loss on its A$1.2 billion ($1.29 billion) project.
A spokeswoman for Wembley said it had been in contact with Multiplex and was confident the stadium would open in time for the 2006 FA Cup final.
The new stadium, which will become the home of English football, will seat 90,000.
The old Wembley, famous for its twin towers built into the structure, was demolished in 2000, and the FA Cup final has been held in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium since then, the most recent just a week ago with Arsenal's victory over Manchester United.
