Tottenham Hotspur beat Fulham 1-0 yesterday to climb to fourth in the English Premier soccer league and ease the pain of their humiliating League Cup defeat at fourth division Grimsby Town last week.
A lively London derby was settled after only eight minutes when Jermain Defoe beat Fulham's offside trap before sweeping a left-foot shot past advancing Fulham goalie Tony Warner.
In the end that was enough to seal only the third Spurs victory in 27 London derbies. Fulham dropped to 17th on the table.
