KEY POINTS:
Rumours continue to swirl over Sven-Goran Eriksson and the vacant Manchester City post.
Former England coach Eriksson has agreed in principle to become manager of Manchester City on a three-year contract, Sky Sports News has reported.
The English Premier League club responded by noting the media speculation but said it did not plan to name a new coach until a $193 million takeover bid by former Thai Premier Thaksin Shinawatra had been completed.
Thaksin said last week he expected to reveal more of his plans, including the club's next manager, once he had built up a 75 per cent stake, via his UK Sports Investments bid vehicle.
Eriksson, 59, has been out of football since he stepped down from his England job after the 2006 World Cup in Germany and has been out of the club game since leaving Lazio in January 2001.
He would replace Stuart Pearce, who was sacked in May.
Eriksson's coaching career included Portuguese side Benfica along with Italian clubs AS Roma, Fiorentina and Lazio.
He won the European Cup with Lazio in 1999 and the Serie A title in 2000.
