New Zealand captain Ryan Nelsen has been rewarded for an impressive start to life in the English game with a new three-year contract at Premier League club Blackburn Rovers.
The 27-year-old defender joined Rovers in January on an 18-month contract from American Major League team DC United.
He has since made 15 league appearances and a further five in the FA Cup.
Manager Mark Hughes has no doubt about his quality.
"Ryan was one of my first signings and he performed exceptionally well for us last season," Hughes said. "We are absolutely delighted that he has signed a new deal and look forward to him playing a key role for Rovers over the coming seasons."
Blackburn finished 15th in the 20-team Premier League.
