LONDON - The Slovak linesman who signalled Liverpool's early goal against Chelsea in the Champions League semifinal had crossed the line stood by his decision today.
Roman Slysko told the London Evening Standard newspaper he was "adequately positioned for that situation".
"I believe that my decision was correct," Slysko said. "My first feeling and which I remain convinced of is that it was a goal."
Chelsea players said they believed Slysko could not have seen whether Luis Garcia's fourth minute effort had crossed the line or not.
Liverpool won yesterday's second leg 1-0 to reach the final on May 25.
"I am 100 per cent convinced that it was a goal. It was a very hard situation and in that kind of situation a person only has a few hundredths of a second to react," Slysko said.
"I saw it clearly. In my view I was adequately positioned for that situation."
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was far from convinced about the goal.
"No one knows if it was a goal, not even the linesman," Mourinho said after the match.
