KEY POINTS:
Former All Whites skipper Ryan Nelsen has signed a new five year deal with English Premier League football club Blackburn Rovers.
The deal, which expires in 2012, should virtually keep the 29-year-old defender at Ewood Park until the end of his professional career.
Blackburn manager Mark Hughes was ecstatic about the signing as he continues to shape his side into a competitive force in the Premiership.
"I'm delighted for the club and for Ryan," he told Britain's Times Online website.
"He's my captain and he will be very influential in helping to shape the progress of the club."
The 29-year-old defender initially linked up with Blackburn in January 2005 after joining from American club DC United.
He has made 75 appearances for the Rovers and last season helped the side secure Uefa Cup qualification and a place in the FA Cup semifinals.
