LONDON - A 61-year man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into corruption in English soccer, a City of London police spokeswoman said on Friday.
British media said that an inquiry into transfer deals between English Premier League clubs had revealed serious breaches of the sport's rules and that some findings had been forwarded to London police's economic crime department.
The police spokeswoman declined to give further details of the arrest which took place on May 23.
The transfer investigation, led by Lord Stevens and his Quest team, started by looking into 362 transfer deals and are currently still investigating 17.
The Premier League said earlier this year that breaches of the rules being considered included payments by clubs directly to third parties and failure to disclose payments made by agents to other agents or third parties.
The report's findings were delivered to Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore last week, the Guardian newspaper reported.
Citing sources close to the inquiry, the Guardian said that some of the report's findings had already been forwarded to the City of London police's economic crime department, with other investigative agencies also looking into its results.
The newspaper also said that Football Association investigators were considering retaining Stevens to probe deeper into suspected transfer-market irregularities than the Premier League's inquiry demanded.
