All Whites midfielder Simon Elliot will become the fourth New Zealander to play in the English premiership after signing with Fulham, according to a British newspaper report.
The Observer reported yesterday that Fulham coach Chris Coleman had confirmed Elliott had joined on a free transfer from his United States club, Columbus Crew.
Last week Coleman was quoted as saying he had been impressed by Elliott, who has played more than 50 games for New Zealand.
"We played against Columbus Crew in pre-season and I'd watched him before then. He's an experienced midfielder who would add quality to the squad," Coleman had said.
Neither the Columbus Crew website nor the Fulham FC website made any mention of the transfer yesterday.
If the report proves accurate, Elliott will follow in the footsteps of Lee Norfolk (Ipswich Town), Danny Hay (Leeds United) and Ryan Nelsen (currently at Blackburn Rovers) in playing in the premiership.
