The Indian cricket selectors will put their two emerging pace bowlers under the microscope during the four-day tour match against Wellington, which starts at the Basin Reserve this morning. The tourists seem certain to leave new-ball bowler Venkat Prasad out of the team in order to assess the test credentials of Robin Singh jun and Debashish Mohanty -- one of whom will almost certainly be called on to play in Dunedin. India's quickest pace bowler, Javagal Srinath, and leg-spinner Anil Kumble are sure to be included tomorrow, as is opening batsman V.V.S. Laxman, but some uncertainty about the Basin wicket has persuaded the Indian management to delay naming the final XI until this morning. Laxman will receive his first chance on tour to press a claim for a test opening berth, while star batsman Sachin Tendulkar could possibly be left out if the selectors choose to play left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi as well.
