BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa - Chris Cairns put his bowling worries behind him with his first two World Cup wickets as Zimbabwe slumped to 79 for four after 20 overs of their Super Six match tonight.
Adams bowled Dion Ebrahim off an inside edge for a golden duck with his first legal ball before Cairns, after a tentative start, removed Craig Wishart and Guy Whittall, as well as taking the catch to remove Grant Flower.
Cairns came to the tournament having not bowled for around a year following knee surgery.
Earlier Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bat.
* Strike bowler Shane Bond produced high pace and big seaming in-cutters in a fine opening maiden over at Wishart.
* Adams swung his first ball sharply away, costing five wides, then bowled a straight ball which Dion Ebrahim chopped straight into his stumps. 5-1, 1.1 overs.
* Wishart pulled Adams for the first boundary at the end of the fourth over. Andy Flower produced a classical high-elbowed extra-cover push off Bond for four. 20-1, 5 overs.
* Adams struggled with his excessive swing. Nine wides conceded by New Zealand in first seven overs. Tall fast bowler Jacob Oram replaced Adams and began with a maiden.
* Flower, driving at a ball swinging across him, edged Bond for four. Oram, with 11 wickets in the World Cup, bowled a second maiden in a row.
* Wishart played his first convincing shot by pulling a rearing Bond delivery for four.
* Cairns on after 12 overs. Wishart brought up the 50 with a pull for four over midwicket, then cracked the next ball to the same rope. 9 off over, the most expensive to date.
* Flower drove Oram off the back foot through the covers.
* Three wickets fell for six runs. Wishart, playing away from his body, caught off a Cairns leg-cutter at slip for 30, 59-2, 14.3 overs. Cairns leapt in the air in delight before being mobbed by his team mates.
* Grant Flower, trying to pull out of a hook against Oram, top-edged to Cairns at square leg after making a single. 63-3.
* Guy Whittall edged Cairns behind for a duck. 65-4, 17 overs. Tatenda Taibu edged Oram for four through the gap between first and third slip. 79-4, 20 overs, Andy Flowwer 27 not out.
