Flamboyant New Zealand umpire Brent Bowden has had his South African stay extended to the Super Six phase at the World Cup.
New Zealand's only umpire at the tournament, Bowden was yesterday named among the 12 top umpires who will stand in Super Six matches which start tonight.
Bowden has been the most talked-about umpire at the cup, with his extravagant boundary signals and crooked raised finger to dismiss a batsman constantly the focus of television coverage.
More importantly, he has had a largely blemish-free cup in his five pool matches.
Bowden will be in the middle for Australia's match against Sri Lanka at Centurion tonight with England's David Shepherd, is video umpire for the Zimbabwe-Kenya match on Wednesday and officiates with West Indian Steve Bucknor for Australia's game against Kenya in Durban next Saturday.
The surprise omissions were South African Dave Orchard and Zimbabwe's Russell Tiffin, who are both part of the international elite panel of eight who officiate in all test matches.
Super Six panel: Brent Bowden (New Zealand), Steve Bucknor (West Indies), Aleem Dar (Pakistan), Asoka de Silva (Sri Lanka), Daryl Harper (Australia), Darrell Hair (Australia), Brian Jerling (South Africa), Rudi Koertzen (South Africa), David Shepherd (England), Simon Taufel (Australia), Srinivas Venkataraghavan (India), Peter Willey (England).
