LONDON - Chris Cairns says he cannot wait to play in the test series against Zimbabwe and South Africa next summer after his first winter layoff in many years.
Cairns is in England for a series of testimonial appearances and is enjoying a deserved six-month break from cricket.
"I'm really looking forward to taking on South Africa and gauging the feeling down there after the [match-fixing] problems hurting them at the moment," he said.
"They will be pretty down, so it's a good time for us. Our game is healthy and it will be good to perform well.
"South Africa are ranked second in the world to Australia but if we can put out our full side and get Dion [Nash] and [Daniel Vettori] back fit we should do pretty well."
Cairns was enjoying a few months to recharge his batteries and relax before the tour.
