* The countries have contested 61 ODIs going into last night's game at Eden Park since they first met at Old Trafford during the 1975 World Cup. India have won 31 and New Zealand 27 with three no results. Of more encouragement to New Zealand, India have won only five of 17 in New Zealand.
* Last night was Stephen Fleming's 28th ODI against India, equalling Adam Parore as New Zealand's most-capped player against that country. Chris Harris has played 27. If that sounds a lot, India's most capped ODI player against New Zealand is the great, and now disgraced, Mohammad Azharuddin, who played a staggering 40 games. Sachin Tendulkar has played 32.
* Sir Richard Hadlee, with 27, is New Zealand's most successful bowler against India. Legspinner Anil Kumble had taken 34 for the Indians before last night.
* The best bowling by a New Zealander is five for 23 by Richard Collinge at Christchurch in 1976. Hadlee is the only other New Zealander to bag five against the Indians, five for 32 at Perth in 1980-81. Four times Indian bowlers have taken five against New Zealand - Kris Srikkanth managed it twice at Visakhapatnam (five for 27) and Indore (five for 32) in 1988, Kumble took five for 33 at Wellington in 1993-94 and Manoj Prabhakar had identical figures at Amritsar in 1995-96.
* Indian batsmen have scored 12 ODI hundreds against New Zealand - Tendulkar's 186 not out at Hyderabad in 1999-00 being the highest. That is one more than their opponents. Nathan Astle's 120 at Rajkot on that same trip is New Zealand's best.
* New Zealand's best totals against India are 349 for nine at Rajkot in 1999-00 and 348 for eight at Nagpur in 1995-96, their highest against any country. India's highest is 376 for two at Hyderabad in 1999-00, their record against any country.
* India have played ODIs at seven New Zealand venues. It will be nine by the end of this series, with the Wellington Cake Tin and Queenstown thrown in.
* India have played six ODIs against other countries in New Zealand - beating Zimbabwe at Hamilton and Australia at Dunedin, but losing to Australia at Christchurch and Dunedin, the West Indies in Wellington and South Africa in Hamilton.
