Ali Forsyth took another step towards the men's singles quarterfinals at the world bowls championships in Christchurch today when be beat Brunei's Brahim HJ Naim 21-7.
It was the New Zealander's fourth consecutive win since losing two of his first three games in his section.
The plot thickened as far as qualifying was concerned when previously unbeaten Canadian Ryan Bester was toppled by fifth-placed Nick Cole, of Spain.
Also complicating paths to the playoffs was the close game between two of the other top three in Forsyth's section, Aron Sherriff, of Australia, and Malaysian Safuan Said. Said beat Sherriff 21-20.
The top four players in each section progress into the quarterfinals, with Forsyth sitting precariously in fourth place. Forsyth plays Sherriff in a crucial match later today.
In the other matches Wales beat Israel 21-13, Spain beat Canada 21-12 and Papua New Guinea beat Zimbabwe 21-18.
