As we all know, we've had one long dry spell this summer.
For me it's not just a lack of water but a lack of exercise and like the scorched brown ground around our city, the old body has shown signs of neglect.
Well, hopefully, that is all about to change. Rotovegas Boxing Gym is about to run a Biggest Loser competition to help raise funds for three of their athletes who have been selected to represent New Zealand in an age group international boxing competition in Kazakhstan later this year.
This is a huge opportunity for Murupara pair Roxaine Halkett-Duff, 16, and Summer Lake, 15, and Rotorua 14-year-old Moana Tahuriorangi, who have worked hard to gain this honour. But like anything it comes at a financial cost. Hence the idea from their boxing coach Aaron Warren to run a competition which not only benefits the youngsters but also gives those take part in the Biggest Loser the opportunity to get themselves healthy.
Aaron has roped me into his team which consists of himself, Roxaine and Summer. Now, I've seen these girls train and to be honest, I'm scared. My body has gotten used to indulging in the odd pie and fizzy drink and has enjoyed sitting back and watching sport rather than participating but hey - it's a good cause and these youngsters deserve our help.
