A 50-year-old man has drowned in what is believed to have been a kayaking incident in Turangi.
The drowning happened near the Tokaanu Water Sports Centre yesterday just after 3pm. Emergency services gave CPR but he was unable to be resuscitated.
Rotorua Senior Sergeant Dennis Murphy said Turangi police were investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, Rotorua Coastguard is reminding people to stay vigilant when on the water.
Coastguard president Barry Grouby said call-outs were quiet over the weekend but they still wanted to get the message out on how important being able to communicate on the water was.
