Rotorua police are urging parents to teach their children the importance of stranger danger following reports of an attempted abduction in the city this week.
On Wednesday a Rotorua woman posted in a Facebook group that a girl had run up to her husband, who was working at Selwyn School, saying a man had tried to steal her brother. He had reported it to police. The girl is said to have pointed to a blue truck with a white canopy.
Rotorua police Acting Inspector Crime Prevention Brendon Keenan said it was important parents teach stranger danger but to also report incidents like this as soon as possible.
"We take things like this very seriously," Mr Keenan said.
Earlier in the year there were reports of a man driving a white van and attempting to coax children into the vehicle. It led to police patrolling around schools.
