For Sarah Craig, hosting a get-away in Rotorua for 10 mums who have lost children to heart conditions is something she felt compelled to do.
But the Rotorua mum is "overwhelmed" by the way the local community has got in behind her to help make sure the mums have an unforgettable time away.
The mothers from around the North Island will be in Rotorua in late June. They know each other through online support groups, but it will be the first time many of them have met in person.
Miss Craig lost her daughter, Skyla, last August after she underwent two open heart surgeries for one of the most complicated heart defects surgeons had ever seen. She was just 6-months-old. Miss Craig said this was her way of giving back. While the mums knew they'd be getting free accommodation at the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat houses, she was surprising them by organising for their food to be provided, as well as petrol money, pamper packs, visits to attractions and other special treats.
"I want to get as much stuff for them as I can so they can come and relax and know how amazing Rotorua is."
