They were a gift for her 30th birthday - but three days later Morgane Lebrun's brand-new bagpipes, worth thousands of dollars, were stolen from her Rotorua home in the middle of the night.
Last Thursday, someone entered her central city home through a ranchslider that was not latched properly. Her iPad, a computer, her partner's jacket and wallet, and her prized possession - her bagpipes, were stolen.
After she had reported the theft to police, a nearby motel worker found what was left of her bagpipes dumped in a backyard and returned them to her - but with essential parts missing.
The sticks that enable the bagpipes to make sound are missing and without them the instrument is useless.
Ms Lebrun said she was devastated that they were stolen.
