Work including the construction of a raised crossing will close part of Haupapa St from Monday.
According to the Rotorua Lakes Council website, the street would remain open to traffic however motorists would need to exit the same way they entered.
The work, which included constructing a raised crossing between the council's Haupapa St carpark and the library building, was expected to take a few months to complete.
It's part of the Library and Child Health Hub project which included extending and upgrading Jean Batten Park.
The hub project, due to be completed in November 2017, would result in enhanced library services for the community and see Lakes District Health Board becoming a tenant in the building, providing child outpatient and support services.
Rotorua Lakes Council said to ensure good access to the library and child health services some roadworks were necessary to make Haupapa St more pedestrian friendly.
This included constructing a raised crossing from council's Haupapa St carpark to the hub.
Rotorua Lakes Council apologised for any inconvenience the roadworks may cause.
The work will happen as quickly as possible, depending on the weather.
Meanwhile work on the redevelopment of Manawa, formerly City Focus, is progressing.
The redevelopment of the shared space has been done in three stages and is now in the final stage. Contractors have completed site levelling work and installation of services including stormwater, irrigation ducting and street light cabling.
They are now working on installation form work and reinforcing, carriageway edge beams and feature concrete surfaces.
When that is complete the work will move to cobbling, planting and installation of installation of seating.
It is estimated there are a few weeks of work left on the project but completion date will be weather dependent.
