Rotorua's Salvation Army is helping to make Christmas extra special for more than 100 families in the city.
Each year the church provides hampers to families who they have helped during the past year, and Captain Brian Martin said this year they planned to put together hampers and give them to 120 struggling families in Rotorua this festive season.
The Daily Post Christmas Appeal, which was launched on Saturday, is collecting donations of money and food for the Salvation Army's foodbank. The appeal is also for the hampers.
The hamper will include a chicken, gravy mix, vegetables, meringues, tarts, ingredients to make a trifle, confectionery, chips and dip, soft drink, weetbix, flour, sugar, spaghetti, baked beans, eggs, tea and coffee, pasta, jelly, biscuits and crackers. It will also include toiletries and Christmas crackers.
Mr Martin said the items in each hamper would not only be for Christmas Day but also help families get beyond Christmas Day.
