Rotorua's only public parking building is to close on Saturdays due to a lack of customers.
The Rotorua District Council is closing its Pukuatua St carpark building on Saturdays after its use dropped so dramatically it became financially unfeasible to keep it open.
Council City Services manager Dennis Olliver said since August 2011 an average of just two cars used the building on Saturdays.
"The council is very conscious about keeping its operational costs as low as possible. Given the carpark building's total capacity of 245 spaces and the cost of providing an on-site attendant, an occupancy rate of less than 1 per cent is simply not sustainable."
Mr Olliver said more than half the carpark building was used on weekdays, some of that due to the council's $5 all-day parking offer on the top floor.
