Hundreds of Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi graduands gathered in Whakatane to celebrate their graduation.
A powhiri at the Wananga's new Domain Rd campus started the day and was followed by the annual Gown and Town Hikoi through the streets of Whakatane.
The capping ceremony began at midday last Friday at the Memorial Hall with a feast concluding the day.
Guest speaker was Justice Joseph Williams.
More than 2000 students from Awanuiarangi's sites throughout the North Island graduated on Friday although not all were in Whakatane for the ceremony.
