If you thought 2016 was a wet year you weren't wrong - but Rotorua had a higher temperature overall than 2015.
The first three months of 2016 had twice as much rain as would normally be expected, according to local weatherman Brian Holden, from Springfield Weather Observations.
The mean rainfall in January at 186mm was significantly more than 29mm in January 2015, and March had an even bigger increase - 228mm, up from 77mm in 2015, and the dubious title of highest monthly rainfall.
Throughout the year heavy downpours and thunder storms caused chaos around Rotorua.
On April 2, the Rotorua Daily Post reported, a sudden thunderstorm caused chaos around the city with emergency services called and flooding on several streets as well as a boardroom at Rotorua Girls High School.
